Klaus (Home Theater Review)

When Jesper distinguishes himself as the Postal Academy's worst student, he is sent to Smeerensburg, a small village located on an icy island above the Arctic Circle, where grumpy inhabitants barely exchange words, let alone letters. Jesper is about to give up and abandon his duty as a postman when he meets local teacher Alva and Klaus, a mysterious carpenter who lives alone in a cabin full of handmade toys.

Video Review

As a Netflix 4k UHD movie, the video quality is good even though it is animated. I have nothing bad to say about it. It is exaclty what you can expect from Nextflix 4k movies. Regardless of your viewing choice it should look good, as long as you have a good download speeds.

Remember, Netflix will only show you the 4K version of its content if your TV or video playback device(s) supports it.

Sound Review

This movie is listed as having a Dolby Atmos sound mix BUT it is sparingly implemented. There were a lot of missed opportunities to do great things with the overhead and surround speakers. That's not to say there's no use of the Atmos speakers just that there was so much more they could have done with it. For example, using them when the wind blew to symbolize Klaus's wife's spirit in the area could have been awesome. And in true Netflix sound fashion, the sound is much lower than your physical media would be. I will say that the use of LFE throught the movie was well placed and balanced. Some movies add a lot of bass but not this movie.

Summary

This is a great holiday/seasonal movie with an original story, which is rare these days. It's a perfect movie to watch with family. And even though it won't do much to show off your theater, It's a good time and one of my personal favs.
