The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Version (Home Theater Review)

Young hobbit Frodo Baggins, after inheriting a mysterious ring from his uncle Bilbo, must leave his home in order to keep it from falling into the hands of its evil creator. Along the way, a fellowship is formed to protect the ringbearer and make sure that the ring arrives at its final destination: Mt. Doom, the only place where it can be destroyed.

Video Review

The 4k UHD disk version of this film seemed like it was taken directly from the screen. Even the dated special effects were the same as I remember them from watching it in the theater. There are plenty dark scenes in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring but watching it on my Samsung TV made them clear and the colors pop. I'm not sure if they still make this tv but you can see a list of my theater equipment for testing below.

Sound Review

This was a great implementation of Dolby Atmos. From the fireworks exploding over head to to the tossing of Gandalf around the tower walls, the sound moves around the room effortlessly. What is more pleasing to me is that when you expected the sound to move around the room based on what you saw on the screen, it did.

This was the first time that I experienced bass move across the room. There were so many pleasing and surprising sound effects that they are too many to name. Watching it in my home theater was better than watching it in a theater in my opinion. The Atmos mix on this movie really draws you into an already great story!

Summary

Just go an get it already. Ha. Ha. It's a great time and a nice way to show off that home theater sound to your friends and family.
