Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (Home Theater Review)

Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past, and he's not sure if it's love -- or if she's a ruthless con artist who's using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard, Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn't know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past.

Video Review

This 4K remastered video was much better than the original. The colors were bright and the darker scenes were still clear. I didn't notice any artifacting or stuterring while watching either.

Sound Review

Per Disney movies, the surrounds were there but they were really low except for mousic. There wasn't much LFE either. The soverall sound wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.

Summary

This is an entertaining movie that will use most of the surround speakers of your home theater, albeit low though. You may have to crank up the volume or adjust the distance of your surround sound speakers to an emmersive experince with this movie. And unfortunately, this is a regular occurence for most Disney "Dolby Atmos" movies, even on 4k UHD discs.
